Ciao everyone,

Last week I asked you a simple question.

“If you had to build a football club from scratch tomorrow…

What would you invest in first?”

The results

880 of you voted.

Here’s what you said:

  • 15% → A world-class coach

  • 48% → A top scouting department

  • 23% → A data and analytics unit

  • 13%→ A strong media and content team

Let’s talk about this.

Scouting wins by a lot

Almost half of you chose scouting first.

It makes sense.

If you don’t get the players right, nothing else matters.
Not the coach.
Not the tactics.
Not the data.

Scouting is the foundation of value.
It’s where great seasons start and where long-term success is built.
Especially for clubs that cannot afford to miss.

And let’s be honest… most clubs still don’t have a real scouting philosophy.
They have people, but not a system.

You clearly understand how important that system is.

Data and analytics came second

This is the part that made me smile.
A decade ago, this option would have finished last.
People used to make jokes about “the spreadsheet clubs.”

Now?
23% of you said:
“Start with data.”

Not because it replaces people.
Because it helps people make fewer bad decisions.

Data isn’t magic.
It’s clarity.
And clarity saves you millions quietly, in ways fans never see.

Only 15% picked the coach

This surprised me… and didn’t.

A great coach can lift a team.
Transform it.
Create belief.

But without the right players and the right structure, even the best coach becomes a firefighter.
And football today is too complex to rely on one person to fix everything.

So the result makes sense.
Still interesting though

Media & content: the last option… but underrated

Only 13% chose this.
And yes, if you’re starting from zero, you build the football side first.

But let me say something gently:
Media is the part that most clubs still underestimate.

Content is not “marketing.”
It’s identity.
It’s how you attract fans, sponsors, players, and attention.

Fans are the club!

And attention today is currency.
Cheap to produce.
Expensive to ignore.

The clubs that understand this early… win later.

My take

Building a club is like building a house.

You don’t start with the roof.
You start with the foundations.

And your votes say that the foundation of modern football is:
talent identification + good decision making.

I agree.

Give me:

  • a sharp scouting department

  • a smart analytics unit

  • and a coach who fits the model

…and we’ll build something.

Slowly, patiently, sustainably.

The rest will come.

So let me ask you one more:

If you had to pick the second thing to invest in… what would it be?

See you tomorrow!
